Production Instrumentation & Activation Audit
Production Instrumentation & Activation Audit is a project by Akash Renuka Ashok (Co-Founder and CTO). A diagnostic review of a live product's measurement layer that reversed the team's roadmap priorities.
- Role
- Co-Founder and CTO
- Category
- Data & Analytics
- Stack
- Firebase Analytics, Supabase PostgreSQL, Event schema design, Cohort analysis
The problem
Core-loop usage counters were reading zero, a preferences counter read 100% unset, user totals disagreed across sources, and there were no feedback submissions. The team could not tell whether the product or the instrumentation was broken.
What Akash owned
Ran the audit end to end and wrote the resulting action plan and roadmap resequencing.
Highlights
- Framed the finding as a blocking question rather than a solved problem, distinguishing broken instrumentation from a dead core loop
- Reviewed historical onboarding records and identified instrumentation concerns; those snapshots are not a validated activation funnel or comparative result
- Defined a canonical activation event in code and a versioned event pipeline as prerequisites for any retention claim
- Explicitly deferred defensibility ('moat') work on the reasoning that a moat protects usage that has not yet been demonstrated
Outcome
Re-sequenced the technical roadmap to put measurement and core-loop validation ahead of retention and growth work.
